Statement in response to the recent media coverage concerning our approach to managing detentions - It has been stated that students “go early” as a result of our policy of behaviour management and this is factually incorrect.
Our published end of the school day is 2:50pm and has been for over 5 years. All students leave at this time unless they are required to stay for 10 minutes as a result of any low level issue such as being late to school or lesson. This 2nd dismissal policy has been in place since September 2016. All parents received a letter at the start of the academic year. No parents have contacted the school since the start of the approach. The vast majority of our students leave school on time at 2:50 having had a successful day of learning. This is a non-news story and this only serves as a distraction for the students, staff and families connected with the school in the real task of providing excellent teaching and learning. Schools, nationwide use detentions to reinforce expectations and we are not doing anything different or novel. We will be contacting the press to ensure this is rectified. The local newspaper changed their headline yesterday as a result of the inaccuracy of their original headline.
